Hello! I'm back with another tutorial for these super easy hanging hearts. They look great in shabby chic florals, as well as bold prints with funky buttons and patterned ribbons. I have sewn this by hand, but you can also use a sewing machine if you like.
You will need -
fabrics of your choice (2 pieces large enough to fit a heart template on each)
a heart template to draw around
hollowfibre fill, fabric scraps, rice, barley or scrap wool fibre
a sewing needle, and thread to match your fabric
ribbon
button

Instructions -
- Draw around your heart template onto one piece of your fabric, then pin it right sides together to your second piece of fabric.
2. Stitch on the line you've drawn, backstitching at the start and end, knot and cut thread. make sure you leave a gap on one of the straight edges for turning and filling.
3. Trim away excess fabric to approximately 1/8" from your sewing line all the way around. I like to leave a little more fabric around the gap to make it a little easier when stitching it closed.
4. You will need to make a cut in the top point of the heart, like I have in the picture below. Be very careful, you don't want to cut your stitches!
5. Now it's time to turn your heart right sides out, you may want to give it a little press if it's a bit creased like mine!
6. Fill it with your hollowfibre fill, you want it nicely stuffed not bursting at the seams but not too floppy! I used clean scrap wool inside mine for this tutorial, but my kits include hollowfibre fill. You can also leave the ribbon and button off and fill with rice or barley for a heat bag.
7. Ladder stitch the gap closed. With your needle and thread, go under the fabric tucked inside the
8. Now take a small horizontal stitch on one side of the gap and pull it through, like in the picture below
9. Then take another horizontal stitch directly opposite where your thread comes out and pull it through.
10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 until the gap is closed and take a few small stitches to secure your thread and cut.
11. Make a loop with your ribbon, and sew the button to it
12. Sew the button and ribbon to the top of your heart, knot and cut your thread. You're finished!
